I am really aware that many women come to pilates because they want a flat tummy more than anything else! And I tell them- ‘I can give you a flat tummy, but it may be hidden by the excess that sits on top! If you want your tummy to be flat, then you’ve really got to look at what your eating. Sure, you’ll look slimmer, longer, taller, straighter. With two sessions or more a week you can literally change your body shape over time. But if you really want that flat tummy, then you cannot just rely on pilates to give you ‘the look’.
Cut out sugar
Try cutting sugar from your diet. That’s not just a case of cutting out fizzy drinks, cakes and sweets. If you want to go the whole hog then try cutting out all sugar- which includes carbs too. No potatoes, no rice, no bread. There are great alternatives available these days. Steamed veg or cauliflour rice with your curry, advocado with your bacon and egg is a great filler substitute for bread. Increase your vegetable intake. And your proteins.
OK so you’ve started your pilates classes. Now you need to make sure that you’re getting your aerobic exercise. You’ll get better results from your pilates classes too if you add some aerobics to your weekly routine. This can be anything from brisk walking, dancing (my favourite), zumba, tennis, swimming- or anything else that you enjoy enough to practice regularly.
But what about my flat tummy?
Unfortunately you cannot choose where to loose your fat from. So, if you’re a natural ‘apple’ then you may need to work harder than someone whom is a natural pear. Bummer, eh?
Women are meant to have a rounded belly…..
Yeah OK, nothing wrong with a little rounded, and sometimes I find those hard abs on a woman quite unatractive. What do you think?
Ultimately, when were exercising and eating healthily, then our body will hopefully find it’s natural ideal shape. And we have to learn how to love it.
